Social Media Must: Engage Your Audience

When I initially began this 10-week journey of a blogging assignment, I really didn’t think I would be engaging with anyone, or that my blog would actually be read by anyone other than my professors or the occasional browsing classmate. I knew the Internet had created a whole other world of communication, but it didn’t occur to me that my reach would be beyond J452. Boy oh boy, was I in for a surprise…

Engaging with your readers is crucial in the success of your social media or blogging strategies. The days of simply talking at your audience are long over- it’s all about talking with your audience. A simple ‘Like’ or ‘+Follow’ isn’t really worth anything unless you’re interacting with the person who liked or followed you in the first place.

Ryan Johnson said it best: “It’s like having a bunch of acquaintances [that] will show up at your party, but no real friends who will pick you up at the airport.” You would be both surprised and amazed at what you can learn by engaging your readers, initiating conversation and listening to each other.

Throughout my intro to blogging process, I’ve connected and interacted with several people from different corners of the country that I would’ve never known otherwise. I’ve learned so much from Charles Primm, Daniel Hebert, Ryan Johnson and Jonno Mason just to name a few.

Although this assignment comes to a close within the next week, I plan to continue blogging.

Thanks for reading, following and engaging with me; but most importantly, thank you for making me feel like I have a voice and for giving that voice credibility. I look forward to connecting and engaging with you in the future. 🙂

You are spot on with this one! And yet, a lot of companies (or individuals) out there still have trouble grasping this concept. Good on you for realizing it! 🙂

I’m glad that you enjoyed your blogging experience, and that you will keep going! Oh, and thanks for all the mentions 😉 I appreciate it! It has been a pleasure engaging with you! Great post Marcie! 🙂

  2. Marcie: Glad you will keep blogging! You have a lot to offer, and you are looking at some areas that don’t receive as much coverage as they should, like infographics. This may be your in to becoming the go-to source for infographics thoughts.

Good luck, and keep at it!

  3. Marcie, reading your blog has been very enjoyable over the past ten weeks. I’ve appreciated your insights into the ways that images, design, and communications can interact. The class may be almost over, but don’t let that stop you. Keep up the good work!

    Charles
